So it has begun, once again the one weekend 80% of all UK males look forward to and 100% of UK women hate. Yes its the start of the football season and my god what a start it was.

Fresh from a £100 million Transfer spree Manchester City started with a 2-0 win over Blackburn. Adebayor started to repay his £25 million fee with a goal after just 3 minutes. However desptie the money spent by manager Mark Hughes it was left to home grown Steven Ireland to wrap up the win for City.

Elsewhere all eyes were on the opening match as Carlo Anchelotti started his life in the Priemier league with Chelsea at home to Hull. After the horrific 2nd half to last season Hull know this year they are up against it in their bid for survival. Chelsea started brightly with Drogba looking in Ominous form but it was Hull who had the cheek to take the lead through the much loved Steven Hunt (Irony ;) ). Chelsea hit back quickly through a Drogba freekick but it wasnt untill the 92nd minute that they scored again. Drogba played a one two with Deco and went for a cross, but it ended up in the back of the net, looked amazing but he admitted he didnt mean it in an interview afterwards (Stupid man, it was a goal of the month candidate).

Much has been written about Arsenal this year, they havent spent big, theyve lost Adebayor and Toure, Wenger is losing it, they wont get into the top 4.  As luck would have it they started the season away at Everton. Not the best place to start your campaign especially when the whole world is waiting for you to fail. What happened? Arsenal won 6-1 I dont have the room to describe their performance but it was sensational, fabregas was amazing and if anyone thinks Arsenal will be giving up 4th place without a fight is crazy.

Elsewhere we had a goal of the season contender from Hugo Rodallega helped Wigan to a 2-0 win away at Aston Villa. Darren Bent got off the mark for Sunderland following his £10million move Tottenham giving them a 1-0 win over Bolton. West Ham started away at Wolves and came away with all 3 points thanks to a stunning opening goal from England U21 Captain Mark Noble and Burnley played their first game in the top flight for years only to lose 2-0 at Stoke which has ominous signs for them.

In the final game of Saturdays program we are focusing on the 2008 FA Cup winners Portsmouth. Only 3 players remain from that team at Fratton Park. David James, John Utaka and Silvan Distin. Portsmouth have sold 10 players for a total of £98 million since then and have re-invested a massive 0 in the side. There is a takeover currently undergoing at Fratton Park but thats been going on for 10 weeks now and shows no sign of ever being completed. As a Cardiff fan I honestly feel for the Pirate fans at the moment as their club could go out of business any day.

But at least the opening game of the season would help them forget their troubles for 90 mins right? Wrong! Fulham, last seasons suprise package and Premier League Handicap winners spoiled the Pompey fans afternoon with a 1-0 win. Pompey looked terrible and had a grand total of one shot on Target the entire game. Signs are bad for Portsmouth and I dont wish their forthcoming season on any football fan.

Random Matches from Other Leagues

Cardiff went to Blackpool looking to keep up their 100% record and started brightly with Micheal chippy chops Chopra getting his 3rd in 2 league games. However soon after McCormack went off injured and Cardiff were lucky to gain a point. David Marshall (Cardiff GK) was Man of the Match and that tells its own story.

Bristol City played Crystal Palace, now where the hell do you start? Freddie Sears (on loan from West Ham) seemed to have opened the scoring from 10 yards. However the ball hit the bar at the bottom of the goal (used to hold the net in place) and it bounced right out. Everyone in the ground apart from the linesman and referee saw the goal but they gave a goal kick instead. Bristol City ended up getting the winner. What will be interesting in the aftermath of this is 1. Will Warnock get banned again? 2. Will the game be replayed?

Bristol Rovers beat Stockport 2-0 to record their first league victory of the season.

Swansea lost 3-0 at home to Middlesbrough !!!

Predictions

Portsmouth, Burnley and Hull to go down.

Cardiff to fail again on the last week of the season.

Premier Leage teams will have nothing to play for as usual from April as the top 4 are in place and the teams at the bottom will get relegated
