KillHappyEddie, Live and nearly Unedited
oldliners

Form Scotland to Hamburg, you can now read the truth behind the legend. In the first of our In-house interviews, KillHappyEddie reveals his hopes and dreams for the future, talks candidly about gaming and reveals a little about the man along the way.

Eddie, we where only recently discussing the time you've been in Oldliners. When did you find us and who do we have to blame for you ?

Well what should I say, it was back in the times of BF2 around 1804 I think, and I was scouring the BF2 servers for some team play and found a fairly busy server with a player called Tinnitus. After a few days of playing or should I say dieing on various fields of battle I finally found the website, and discovered my love sweaty undies and pork scratchings. Eventually joining the BF2 team. Not sure who actually let me in but the cronies I hung around with were Van, Spanky, Coops (Who actually fixed my first very bad attempt of a sig) Custard, Drag, Broznik Tidy even yourself my dear chap. So Now that I have named the names you can choose who to blame ;-P

It's difficult for people of our age, but do you remember the first time you ever played online, and what game was it ?

Actually, I can believe it or not it was BF2. Coming from a poor family that lived under 3 and a half rocks we were unable to play online. Although I don’t know if this counts but I used to go to the local library where I played on their computer the game was Harrier attack does this count? No ach well.

I think that counts eddie, but with that history it dosen't explain your flying in present day..

To most of us your just Eddie now, But I remember you firstly as Kill Happy Eddie, It often makes me smile. Can you tell us where it came from ?

Lol Killhappyeddie is still alive (well sort of). The name is actually ironic, coming from the military to be a killhappy is actually against most soldiers nature. As I love to rush in for the team in game I am more than happy to die for the team, hence I fall my team can follow and clear up well that’s my plan anyway. The Eddie part sort of got suck on my by my team mates in the Army. Prior to joining the boxing team my nick name was just jock being Scottish made sense, but after a few fights in the ring I was given the name Eddie the monster, basically I hate being punched in the nose which does make me really mad then I just lost my rag and flattened theirs, hence after that Eddie stuck with me.

Eddie the monster ?? Scratch my last comment about your flying.

In times gone by some of us can be accused of playing under different names, in my case this can be attributed to my senility. I choose a new name, if I can't remember who I am. Do you ever suffer with dementia and if so what forms does it take ?

Sorry what was the question again?

Normally I tend to stick with something linked to Eddie. In CS:S I have changed from killhappyeddie to Eddie dead again seems to fit very well to the game. DOW Eddwardus, DOW2 OldEdd I think, Eddgruber in some other game in any of the BF games is it still killhappyeddie.

Erm can I have a drink now please……………..

If I asked you to give me your personal opinion of the type of gamer you are, how would you best describe yourself.

Normally lying on the floor pushing up daisies. Although really it depends on the game, I really do tend to rush in a lot but am slowly getting better at hanging back and not dieing sooo much. As a wine matures with age I think I am slowly starting to understand a wine alone is not always the best example, maybe a crate of beer would be better working together to get a job done. Like I said it really depends on the game, I can play in a group or I can play solo either way I still die.

Interesting, now for the sake of making you squirm, in YOUR opinion how do you think others would describe you ?

Lovely question, this could be a split decision. I would say probably the good egg that everyone wants to have as a friend or companion. The diplomatic Scottish gob shite that searches for an even balance in the world, or just another old wanker with nothing constructive to say, good for a giggle but for heavens sake leave him in the cupboard when guests come to visit.

Ok as a change of subject as I am sure you would like one, What games do you get the most out of and why ?

To be honest if the game is fun then there is no limit to what you can get out of it.
From friendship, to just having a giggle with your mates. Games of all types need to be given a chance, I never used to be a fan of MMO’s but after SWG and Darkfall my opinions have changed.

But it has to be said when I look at how long I play a game or even go back to a game it is really hard to say what the attraction is for example BF2 more than 500 hours probably 300 of them sitting on a server trying to get it started, BF2142 also 400 hours + ArmA xfire says 466 hours but I know it is more, 300 + for CS:S and the new ArmA2 is already hitting 51 hours here you can see for yourself http://www.xfire.com/profile/kheddie/

All in all it’s about playing together with your mates to give something and maybe even to take something home with you at the end of the night.

Recent articles in several games magazines are showing that the key demographic for the games industry matches the key demographic of Oldliners. This means that someone
somewhere is actually interested in the ramblings of an old man, that being said what is your opinion on the games market at the moment and where would you like to see
it progress.

Hmm I think the game industry has just noticed that the only people who can afford their games is this age group. If they were to drop the price I bet the study would show something else like lower crime rates (in the shoplifting departments) and an increase in flashing due to the older generation not getting any attention because all the young kids would be back in the game.

Nah joking aside, prices need to drop, content in the games needs to improve and if I look at the “Oldliners” as a group the one game that has a simple idea that keeps pulling us all back even for just a night here and there is CounterStrike:Source. The last time I was in the UK they still wanted 30 pounds for a used version of COD4 MW I mean WTF? The Games market is a big market and the ramblings of a few old men, may not be heard as we all want so many different things from games. If and a big IF the game developers were middle aged men then maybe we will have a bigger impact but as I am sure you will agree most of the firms pumping out games are kids making games for kids. (Mentally speaking)

What upcoming release are you most looking forward to, and how will you cope if it's release date is prolonged ?

Actually only 2 maybe three, they are Op Flash 2 “Rising Dragon” and the COD Modern Warfare 2. The third is the next part from Half life 2. I tend to be a bit of a drifter when it comes to new game compared to how I used to be in the past, I think it has to do with wasting money on a bad purchase.

For many, the insane ramblings and cackles in foreign tongue from the lovely Edweena is common place in our Team speak existence now, would you say she spoke for you
both with these ramblings?

With out legal advice I am unable to answer that question. But between you and me, she is normally keeping a firm grip of her little boys in the -=DGC=- Clan or tearing someone’s head of who has just broke the rules on their server. There maybe the odd indirect comment whizzed towards Atomicarmadildo or Coco Clown. But other than that, no she speaks for her self I am sure you would agree she does very well at it.

Clearly her ramblings have star quality, is there plans for a broadcasting slot. Maybe a morning DJ on a breakfast show ?

Well due to international discussions I am not at liberty to discuss that. But there have been rumours of multi million deals being put on the table.

Your have contributed quite heavily over the years to the Oldliners community, where do you see Oldliners in 10 years from now, and what would you like to see in the
less distant future for us ??

As you so nicely put the “Oldliners community” is a community and it will only get out of it what the community puts in to it. “As the saying goes put shit in you get shit out” With that in mind the key element is what is or are “Oldliners” if we maintain that we will always have a bright and long living future.   For me it’s a home and homes never stop being looked after or cared for or never stop needing work done to them. So as long as we look after it it will look after us way beyond the 10 years that you’re asking about. In the short term we or better said the “Oldliners” is back under construction lets see what the future brings.

Is it possible to predict the future of multiplaying online without mystic Meg, and if you where to gaze upon your own magic ball where do you see it going.

No it’s not possible to predict the future for Multiplaying online maybe because my balls are pink and hairy unlike that from Mystic Meg. If I was to guess where this is all going I would say lets do the NAT dance! Seems to be the big trend for some of the newer games. When I look around the gaming world I see various groups those who play together for fun those for the Hardcore ladders, those for just relaxing and as we all know the easy riders that use cheats scripts/macroers, really I see not clear direction for online games the pull allsorts of people. I think the question should be how to sort all of this out.

We all have moments in our life where games become something more, whether it's because you can almost smell the cordite, flinch under laser fire or for a single moment
you stand elevated from others in shining armour with your sword aloft, breathing heavily from the efforts of slaying your foe in battle. We can all think of a moment to share, and if we can't we should think fast because we are asking you about yours now ?

Oh I have one that I will never for get. It goes back to the time where we had an internal CS:S match Oldies Vs Oldies, well more Hardcore CS:S guys against the less so hardcore guys. The team leaders where Silence for the no HC CS:S and Siren I think was the other not too sure. Anyway the map was Prodigy anyway after Silence banning our team from using nades and flashes as T cos he was always being blinded by us lot in turn we were being killed due to being blind. But that is not the moment that sticks in my mind. It was as the side changed where we were CT, in one of the rounds there was only little Eddie and Siren left the bomb was planted Eddie is at the door to the bomb site A all the voices in my ears where saying “Oh shit Eddie its siren just get the bomb” with the underlying sounds of your dead meat anyway Eddie. As I went for the bomb Siren came round the corner behind the trolley Eddie flicked a shot and by some miracle Shot Siren in the head and then defused the bomb. The cheers in our channel, where to be heard for miles. All in all I don’t know who was more surprised Siren the I got him, me the I pulled the shot off or my team. The other things I won’t for get are these few words “I bet he is cursing himself now.” The main thing is, it was yet another very enjoy full night of gaming with the “Oldliners”.

A new term in media now is "Fail", I think especially of one such variation repeated in our own circles "Epic Fail", can you describe a time in your gaming career where you could apply this term too? If you can't I can always start a thread on the forums asking for people to remind you of some of them. It's just better if we hear it from you.

That’s easy I never fail I may have a few delays but never fail. Of course you can always ask in the forums, but I’m most likely to have an answer for the case presented. Actually I would say my first sig I will post it later on the forums if I still have it.

Your opinion has been asked allot during this article, is there any one thing you would like to say that hasn't on or off topic of games or Oldliners ??

First of all I would like to that my parents for bringing me in to this world I know we didn’t have much but I did quiet well for myself so far. Also a big thanks to the founders of “Oldliners” with out your idea we would not have a home for grumpy old men. To the community gentlemen we only get out of “Oldliners” what we put in to it so please feel free to add or contribute in anyway you see fit. If something is missing say something don’t just sit on the sidelines and say nothing none of us here are mind readers well apart from Mystic Meg and she is not going to help us keep our happy home. Good communication is the key as you are all aware whether business or pleasure; a community needs people and people need a community.

Many thanks for your time Eddie, and I am sure I speak for all when we wish the best of luck with the future.
